JAMMU, May 28: Former Minister Mula Ram and DCC Rural President Hari Singh Chib JKPYC slammed BJP for playing politics over the migrants’ issue even as the country fights the Covid-19 pandemic.
While participating in the Party’s social media campaign – #SpeakUpIndia, the former Minister urged BJP to keep aside politics during the time of crisis and work in the interest of the public instead.
He requested the J&K Government for allowing the Congress party to provide buses for ferrying stranded migrants of the state.
He expressed resentment against the J&K Government for not making adequate arrangements of migrant workers for their journey towards home districts.
He emphasized that the Congress has decided to pay all the expenses of migrant workers but due to non-available of permission migrant workers are suffering unnecessarily.
Mula Ram appealed to the Lt Governor of Jammu and Kashmir to make proper arrangements for smooth and safe journey of the migrant workers to their respective states.
Both the Congress leaders, through this campaign, demanded direct cash transfer of Rs 7,500 per month for a period of six months for poor households, distribution of free ration to the needy, a financial package to help the MSME, safe transportation of the stranded migrants back to their native towns and villages and increasing the work days under MGNREGA to 200.
Hari Singh asked the BJP leadership that there was no need to do politics at the time of crisis.
He said that if J&K Government was unable to manage their travelling, Congress Party would bear the cost of rail travel of every needy worker and migrant labour, adding that there were lakhs of migrant workers who were ‘languishing’ in different parts of the country with neither food nor money to travel.
