Motor Tpt representatives meet Transport Commissioner

Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU, Apr 25: A deputation of Motor Transport Companies’  Representatives/ Agents Association today under the leadership of its president, S Gajan Singh  and chairman Farman Ali called on Transport Commissioner and discussed problems being faced by members of Association and other people with him.
The Association expressing its concern over mismanagement and rude behavior of RTO said the corruption in RTO office is on peak. It alleged that RTO has turned a blind eye to establishing public conveniences like sheds, bathrooms, toilets and water cooler facilities which resulted into suffering of visiting people in 45 degree C in Summer.  It said unnecessary delay in approval of all the commercial documents by RTO is a cause of harassment of general public and transporters.
It said the condition of depositing forms a day before the day of try is a big problem to applicants coming from distant places as they have no option than to stay for one-two days in city. It was suggested that earlier practice of submitting forms on the same day should be revived.
The delegation said the sensitive and important issue is that unauthorized agents are working in RTO office , who are readily engaged in cheating the innocent persons by making false and forged documents which defame not only the Association but the RTO office too, and also make a loss of revenue to the Government,  so unauthorized agents be strictly banned.
It said despite four RTOs not even a single RTO is available on try day, at least one officer should be in office, so that the people coming from far off places and from other States may not suffer. Moreover as all the commercial files are required approval of RTO who always remains busy on meetings and driving tries  keeping files pending for days together, resulting in unnecessary delay and often misplacement of files. It demanded that the works be handed over to ARTO.
