KARGIL, July 28: Divisional Commissioner Ladakh, Saugat Biswas today visited several flood-hit areas of Kargil to take stock of the situation and damage caused by flash floods and measures being taken for relief and rehabilitation of affected people.
Deputy Commissioner and CEO, LAHDC, Kargil Santosh Sukhadeve, SSP Kargil Anayat Ali Chowdhury and other officers accompanied the Divisional Commissioner.
The Divisional Commissioner took first-hand appraisal of the situation in flood-affected villages and ongoing relief and rehabilitation measures for the affected families.
He also took stock of damage caused to irrigation land, canals and khuls, standing crops, trees, roads and residential houses and listened issues of the locals.
The Divisional Commissioner instructed the concerned officers to speed up the process of assessment of damages in coordination with PRI members and ensure the preparation of restoration plan at the earliest.
At Brigade Bagh, Titi Chumik and Baroo-Sokh areas, Biswas took an assessment of debris clearance works and directed for all support to flood affected families. He further directed to make National Highway functional at the earliest.
Biswas directed the concerned officers to send a request to NIT Srinagar to engage a structural engineer to check the certification of the Sangrah Bridge.
He also visited Khawos village where he took stock of the assessment of loss of agriculture and other infrastructural assets.
The Divisional Commissioner directed to do the trailing and excavation of Nallah and rebuilding and restoration of village school building at the earliest.
Further, he directed to prepare a DPR for all the recurring components pertaining to flood restoration works including Khaus and Sangrah Nallah.
Biswas also visited Stakpa village where he took assessment of the damage caused due to flash floods.
The Divisional Commissioner was informed that machines of the Mechanical Division are on the ground to remove the debris and boulders from Khaus village.
