Jammu reports 11th Corona casualty, 30 more test +ve

9 new cases in Ladakh UT

JAMMU, June 25: A 57-year-old civilian suffering from renal failure became 11th Coronavirus casualty in Jammu region and first in Poonch district today while 30 more persons including 11 security personnel, five of them police constables, tested positive for the virus. The Union Territory of Ladakh reported nine new COVID-19 cases today.
A 57-year-old man, who was originally a resident of Sailan Surankot but had shifted to Alla Peer Mohalla in Poonch town and was suffering from chronic renal failure, died in the Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu in early hours of this morning. He was admitted in the GMC Jammu on June 19 and had tested positive for Coronavirus the same day.
GMC Jammu Medical Superintendent Dr Dara Singh said the COVID positive patient had been admitted in Isolation Ward of the GMC and was on Oxygen for the last two days. He died early today.
He was buried at Alla Peer in Poonch town with protocol set for COVID patients with only limited family members allowed to attend the burial, SSP Poonch Ramesh Angral said.
With this, Corona death toll in Jammu region has risen to 11. Jammu district accounted for highest seven casualties followed by one each in Rajouri, Doda, Udhampur and Poonch districts.
Meanwhile, the district administration in Kathua has directed sampling of all persons arriving in the district for administrative quarantine immediately on their arrival. This has been done to ensure that reports of their COVID tests are received at the earliest and those testing negative are discharged immediately for which the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) has been modified.
“This will minimize stay of people at the quarantine centres,” District Magistrate Kathua OP Bhagat said.
It may be mentioned here that Union Minister of State in PMO Dr Jitendra Singh had directed for immediate sampling of the people reaching from different parts of the country and their release from quarantine centres soon after they test negative. The directions had followed after death of a Hiranagar man at the quarantine centre.
Of 30 Corona positive cases in Jammu region today, eight were reported from Rajouri district, all of whom were security personnel. Two of the positives were police constables hailing from Kandi with travel history of Kashmir and six others belonged to different security forces including four from Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP).
All of them were under administrative quarantine at their formations, SSP Rajouri Chandan Kohli said.
Three Indian Reserve Police (IRP) personnel have tested positive in Udhampur district. They had come in contact with positive persons.
Four persons tested positive in Jammu district today.
They include 34-year-old man from Nagrota and 33-year-old from Akhnoor, both having travel history. Two others were also travelers and under administrative quarantine
Three persons have tested positive for COVID-19 in Kathua district including two from Billawar and one from Mahanpur. They had returned from outside J&K and were lodged at the quarantine centres.
Samba district reported 10 Corona positive cases during last 24 hours, who hailed from Poonch, Rajouri, Anantnag, Baramulla and Samba but had been lodged for administrative quarantine in Samba district.
SSP Samba Shakti Pathak said all 10 have been shifted from quarantine centres to the hospitals.
A 24-year-old woman from Katra in Reasi district and 26-year-old female from Bhaderwah tehsil in Doda district tested positive in their respective districts. Both had travel history of New Delhi and were under administrative quarantine.
A total of 39 Corona patients were today treated and discharged from various COVID hospitals in Jammu region including 17 in Ramban, seven from Jammu, five Samba, four Poonch, two each in Udhampur and Kathua and one each in Reasi and Kishtwar districts.
As per the official figures, Jammu region now has total 1438 Corona cases but there are only 437 active. There have been 957 recoveries and 11 deaths in the region.
Meanwhile, nine more Corona positive cases were today reported in the Union Territory of Ladakh taking total number of cases to 941 including 690 in Kargil and 251 in Leh.
There are now 582 active cases including 147 in Leh and 435 in Kargil while a total of 358 COVID patients have been treated and discharged—103 in Leh and 255 in Kargil. There has been one Corona casualty in Ladakh.
Of total positive cases in Ladakh, 40 were admitted in COVID hospitals, 513 were in home isolation and 29 in COVID Care Centres.
