JAMMU, May 9: Coming forward in support of the Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control Sham Lal Sharma, various business bodies in Jammu today warned that attempt to malign image of the former would invite strong reaction and series of protests by Jammu people.
While addressing a joint press conference, here today, representatives of several market associations in Jammu said that the vicious campaign launched by unscrupulous and anti-national forces on the pretext of spurious drug scam was a well planned conspiracy to settle scores with the Jammu leader who had gone down heavily on them on several issues of national interest during the recently concluded Budget session.
“They visualize Sham Lal as a stumbling block in pursuing their anti-national agenda and have thus launched a negative campaign against him for their own vested interests leaving aside any logic,” said Rajesh Dewan, president of Lower Hari Market Association.
Reminding that a high level probe was underway on the spurious drug case and the issue was sub-judice, Mr Dewan said that the anti-social elements were unnecessary jumping the gun just to speak against the Jammu based leader and create trouble ahead of Amarnath pilgrimage.
“However, these elements would be thoroughly defeated and a line of action will be drawn for series of protests and dharnas here if voice of Jammu is muzzled,”he warned.
Those who were present in the press conference, included, Anil Gupta (president of Lower Raghunath Bazar Association ), Rajesh Raina ( president of Hari Market Association), Rajiv Gupta (president of Gummat Bazar Association), Guru Swaroop Gupta (president of New Hari Market Association) and others.
They also criticized the Government for shifting of General Bus Stand from its existing place to outside the city.
