Innovative scheme launched for welfare of skilled, unskilled workers: Sadhotra

JAMMU, Nov 13: Minister for Labour, Planning and Development Ajay Kumar Sadhotra today said that an innovative scheme has been launched for the welfare of skilled and unskilled workers, which will go a long way in mitigating their problems and ensuring their welfare.
The Minister was chairing a meeting of the Jammu and Kashmir Building Construction Workers Welfare Board here this afternoon.
The Minister, who is chairman of the Board, stressed the need for generating awareness among the targeted segments of the society, so that they can benefit from the programme. He also asked the officers to ensure that the workers get themselves registered with the Board so that their legitimate aspirations are fulfilled.
The meeting was attended by Principal Secretary Finance B.B. Vyas, Housing Secretary, Housing and Urban Development Satish Nehru, Secretary Law Mohammad Ashraf, Member of the Board A. R Parray and Chief Engineer R&B, Jammu A H Sheikh.
The meeting discussed several issues with regard to streamlining the functioning of the Board and taking initiatives for improving the working conditions of the labour force. To ensure coordinated working across the state, the meeting discussed about creation of staff for the district units of the Board.
The meeting also discussed issuance of Identity Cards and streamlining the registration process of the workers. Threadbare discussions were held with regard to digitalization of Provident Fund Scheme, Computerisation of registration, Payment record and the details about the family status of the workers.
It also deliberated upon the establishment of special ITIs near industrial hubs where sufficient population of workers reside, so that vocational trainings could be imparted to the workers and their families. Skill development up- gradation of the construction workers to enable them to enhance their capabilities and output, demonstration of latest tools and techniques of works at work places were other issued discussed in the meeting.
Meanwhile, Mr Sadhotra visited Marh constituency and inspected various development works, besides kick started black topping of two roads under Border Area Development Programme.
The black topping will cost Rs 21 lakh and cover 1.5 kilometer road at Village Sampuanpur Kullian (Surya Chak).
The Minister asked the executing agency to ensure quality work and complete the projects in stipulated time frame.
