JAMMU, Nov 13: Minister for Housing, Horticulture and Culture, Raman Bhalla has asked the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), Urban Environmental Engineering Department (UEED), Public Health Engineering (PHE) and Power Development Department (PDD) to work in coordination to ensure improved basic amenities to the people.
This was stated by the Minister while interacting with the officers accompanying him, during his extensive tour to Basant Vihar in Trikuta Nagar, Bahu Fort, Qasim Nagar, Mahasha Mohalla, Bazigar Basti and Gorkha Nagar to review the progress of ongoing development works.
Commissioner, JMC Kiran Wattal, Chief Engineer, PHE, K K Gupta, Managing Director, JKHB Ram Pal Sharma besides other senior officers of PHE, PDD, JMC and UEED accompanied the Minister.
The Minister asked JMC to gear up its men and machinery in completing the projects like Multipurpose Community Halls, modernization of walkways and recreational parks at Gorkha Nagar and Qasim Nagar besides upgradation of lanes and drains. He also asked for proper maintaining of sanitation in these areas and deputing regular teams of Safai-Karamcharies.
Responding to the locals demand, Mr. Bhalla asked JMC Commissioner to immediately start the construction work on entry gate and approach road besides development of premises by fixing tiles in cremation ground of the Bahu Fort.
Regarding improvement of drinking water supply in Bahu Fort, the Minister asked PHE to prepare estimates for digging of one more tube well in the area so that the shortage of water could be addressed.
Referring to measures being taken up to improve Qasmi Nagar and Sheikh Nagar nallah, the Minister informed that Government has submitted a proposal to the Centre for releasing funds under UEED sector. For the time being, he asked the UEED to start protection work on nallah near Multipurpose Community Hall in Qasmi Nagar to prevent any damage during rainy season.
Mr. Bhalla asked UEED to raise the height of culverts over drains in Qasim Nagar and Bazigar Basti to avoid clogging of debris under the drains.
The Minister asked the JMC Commissioner to make street lights functional in the area for the convenience of devotees of Maha Kali temple at Bahu fort.
