JAMMU, June 3: The Indian Art Centre Organisation today organised the Basohli painting exhibition and prize distribution function at Presentation Convent School, Gandhi Nagar here today.
Many students admired paintings and gained the knowledge about the Basohli art.
On the occasion, Speaker, J&K Legislative Assembly, Kavinder Gupta was the chief guest and BJYM State General Secretary Ajay Pargal and BJP Mahila Morch district vice president Rekha Mahajan was guest of honour. BJP State secretary Aseem Gupta was also present. The program was organized by MK Wadehra.
While speaking, Speaker said that Basohli, a small town of Kathua, is widely known for its paintings called Basohli paintings. Immortalised by its artistic eminence, Basohli today is a metaphor for a vigorous, bold and imaginative artistic style. These paintings are considered to be the first school of Pahari paintings which evolved into the much prolific Kangra paintings school in mid-eighteenth century, he stated.
The major attractions of the exhibition were world famous paintings of Jammu, Basohli and Kangra schools, promoting and popularising the Jammu Dogra art heritage.
Ajay Pargal said that Indian Art Centre is doing wonderful job in developing and propagating the world famous Indian miniature art.
The organizer of exhibition MK Wadehra said that purpose of this exhibition was to promote Dogra art and create awareness among the children for the miniature art.
