Ills afflicting India

Jyoti Sharma
Much has been written about the present political problems. Numerous views have been exchanged among the leaders of high profile and big wigs. India has undergone innumerable ups and downs in the past 60 years. The situation is becoming more and more intricate politically, socially and financially. Ultimately, who is responsible for this ? Perhaps, very few people can understand the gravity of this situation. But, it is a matter of serious concern that those who are capable of solving the problems are not allowed to enter the political arena.
No doubt, India has achieved a lot in the field of science and technology and is advancing very rapidly. Everybody is hankering after fast things—fast music, fast dance, fast food and fast progress. In doing so, we forget that we are also nearing the ‘Doom’s Day’ very fast. He who is born will have to die. Whatever is create will be devastated. Where there is action, there is reaction. The question is only how fast and how slow. At present, India is dreaming for a successful mission to the Moon. How ironicial it is when a news item come from Punjab “so many farmers committed suicide being unable to repay the gubernatorial loans ”. Another heart-breaking news come from Orissa, ” a poor house wife sold out her three children out of four due to acute poverty”. Acute shortage of potable water and electricity are prevailing everywhere in India. The concerned authority is compounding the situation by raising hollow promises to execute prompt and perpetual remedy. The benevolent people rely on them and tolerate the hardships.
It is only after the Kargil war that India woke up after a long sleep and started thinking about the modernisation of defence equipments. In view of the present global situation, the first and foremost task is to make our defence system invincible so that people can sleep a sound sleep at night. Further, let us ponder over the root cause of the present corruption, dereliction, multiscams and bribery. Truly speaking, there is something wrong in our education system. The Govt should provide a correct system of education to the growing up children so that they may serve their mother land with a feeling of patriotism.
The present system of education is not upto the mark. Five Kgs of books on the back of a five year old child is not the correct way of education. All the home assignments the child are solved by his or her parents while the child plays on the verandah. The class teacher offers “very good” on the copy book of the child. There is no biography of freedom fighters in the school syllabus. There is no syllabus that can motivate the young mind of the children to sacrifice for the motherland and how to respect the elders and seniors. That is why a scientist who has the technical knowhow  of making an atom bomb will sell out confidentially the secret technology of bomb making to the rival countries that may create a huge loss to our mother land.
Gone are the days when Sadhus and Mahatmas were the henchmen or advisors to a powerful ruler. In the new fangled times, only a strong, powerful country can rule the roost. Nobody can become  an able administrator with a holy wreath of Elico Carpus Genitras in his hand. He should have a sword in his right hand and a shield in the other. Only sincerity and honesty is not sufficient to become a powerful administrator. He should possess the ABC of Governance. In my opinion, (you may agree with  me or not) any person who is an aspirant of diplomacy in the field of administration should be compulsorily liable to possess a bonafide degree in the administrative policy and democratic governance.
