JAMMU, Aug 12: Principal Sessions Judge Jammu, Kartar Singh has acquitted Suram Singh, Ravinder Singh, Shakuntla Devi and Ghandarb Singh in the dowry death case.
According to the police case, on July 24, 2002 one Rajesh Singh, son of Darshan Singh resident of Old Satwari telephonically informed the Kanachak Police that his sister Seema Devi, who was married to Suram Singh, had died in her matrimonial home under suspicious circumstances and made a request for taking action as required under law.
During the investigation, statements of witnesses were recorded under Section 174 CrPC and a case under Section 306/498-A RPC was registered. After completion of investigation, challan was presented in the court.
After hearing both the sides, Principal Sessions Judge, Jammu, Kartar Singh observed, “several important links are missing in the investigation. All what can be said is that prosecution has miserably failed to prove its case against the accused persons beyond any reasonable shadow of doubt”.
Accordingly, the court acquitted accused of the charges framed against them.
