Police foils JKLF, Bar marches

SRINAGAR, Aug 12: Scores of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front activists today took out what they called peace march from Maisuma following violent communal clashes on the day of Eid-ul-Fitr.
The marchers shouting slogans against BJP and RSS assembled at Maisuma and started marching towards the city centre, Lal Chowk.
Police deployed in huge numbers and wearing riot gear thwarted their march by detaining some activists and bundled them into police vehicles.
JKLF chairman Mohammad Yasin Malik was arrested to stop him for leading his peace march while as Police did not allow the media persons to cover the press conference of Hurriyat Conference (G) Chairman Sayeed Ali Shah Geelani.
Earlier, Kashmir Bar Association also held a protest in the premises of Lower Court complex here. The agitating lawyers raised slogans against the VDC members and expressed solidarity with the majority community of Kishtwar.
Advocate G M Shaheen, Advocate Ghulam Nabi Ronga and other senior Bar members tried to lead the protest towards Lal Chowk, but the police locked the main gate of the lower court and did not allow them to proceed.
The Bar Association members demanded that VDC members be disarmed.
Muslim Khawateen Markaz leader Yasmeen Raja was arrested along with her supporters on Residency Road when they staged a dharna against the Kishtwar violence.
Reports also said that few stray incidents of stone pelting took place in Pulwama district. Police and paramilitary forces deployed in the town fired some teargas shells in the air to disperse the youth.
Reports also said that a young woman was injured when a teargas shell hit her face last evening at Murran Chowk in Pulwama. She has been admitted in SMHS Hospital for treatment. At least, 12 persons were injured yesterday during protests in the town.
