Srinagar, Dec 7: Project Himank of Border Roads Organisation (BRO) celebrated its 32nd Raising Day amid huge fanfare in Leh district today.
A spokesman of the BRO said that large number of dignitaries of Army and civil administration participated in various programmers held at the Himank Complex. On the occasion, GOC 14 Corps, Lt Gen PJS Pannu, felicitated the Project for their outstanding contribution in extending road connectivity in the nook and corner of the Ladakh region.
The GOC said at present there is hardly any area of the Ladakh which has remained unconnected with the hinterland for which all credit must be given to the Project Himank. While referring to the achievements, he said that the Project has created and is maintaining roads and airfields in the most hostile terrain of the world.
“These roads according to general range are at an altitude of 10,000 feet to 19,300 feet and the construction and maintenance is itself a big challenge for the Project Himank,” the GOC said. While expressing his satisfaction, he said the Project has rendered a yeoman’s service in ensuring access to strategic military areas as well as connecting people of Ladakh which according to him has cemented a special bond between Himank , Army and people of Ladakh.
The GOC later presented a trophy to Project Himank as a token of appreciation for their contribution in the road sector. Reminding the services of the jawans of the Project, Chief Engineer, Project Himank, Brigadier DM Purvimath laid the wreath at the Himank Memorial and paid homage to the hundreds of martyrs who sacrificed their lives in the construction and maintenance of roads in hostile environment.
Chief Engineer appreciated the spirit of jawans for their tireless efforts in bringing connectivity to unconnected areas of the region.
The Chief Engineer added that today the Project has attained a respected name by virtue of connecting hostile terrains at an altitude of 19300 feet which has brought about a massive economical development of the region. Emphasizing the jawans to maintain high standards, Brigadier Purvimath said in coming days more mile stones shall be achieved with same zest and zeal with the construction of new road networks in rather impossible areas which could shrink the distances and bring prosperity of the region.
