JAMMU, Dec 7: A delegation of Association for the Welfare of Senior Citizens Jammu led by its President A.K. Arora, called on Governor N.N. Vohra at the Raj Bhavan here today.
The delegation requested the Governor, who is also the Chairman of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, to help the Association build an Old Age Home or a Pay and Stay Hostel for the old age people with the support of the Shrine Board.
They urged the Governor to impress upon the State Government to adopt a State Policy for the maintenance and welfare of senior citizens and enact “National Policy on Older Persons” and “Act for Maintenance and Welfare of Senior Citizens, 2007″ to protect senior citizens from abuse and ill treatment at all levels and making the “State Level Advisory Council for Welfare of Senior Citizens” functional at the earliest.
The Governor assured the delegation that all their concerns will be taken up with the State Government.
Meanwhile, a delegation of Durga Nagar Welfare Committee, led by its President Roshan Lal Raina, called on Governor.
The delegation apprised the Governor about the major problems of their area which include provision of ration only as per previous quota; sanctioning of 250 KV transformer in Kalashpati lane and transformer augmentation from 250 KV to 400 KV in Khatri Mohalla; expediting selection process to fill vacant positions of migrants in Government jobs; expediting preparation of estimates for different works by Works Wing of Municipal Corporation Jammu and Chief Engineer R&B; provision of suitable health care facilities for the residents of Durga Nagar; transport facility; monetary support for construction of community hall; provision of land for construction of higher secondary school building at Durga Nagar; financial assistance for cancer patients etc.
The Governor observed that all the projected difficulties will be got urgently enquired into and assured support for the welfare of the Durga Nagar residents.
