This refers to editorial ” Strengthen Anti Corruption Bureau ” (Excelsior April 4th). Earlier Daily Excelsior had filed a report on the same issue on April 1st. Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) which was previously called State Vigilance Organization (SVO) seems to have become an unimportant institution as many IPS officers are reportedly reluctant to join this organization.
In February this year the post of Director ACB became vacant after Javid Mujtaba Jeelani , IPS (ADGP) was transferred by Government. Till date no officer has been posted to head ACB. This sends a wrong signal among people and Governor’s administration needs to take the issue very seriously especially at a time when corruption is eating into the vitals of our society.
The officers in ACB are also not able to work as there is nobody to assign them duties and task to go for raids and traps. Many cases that are at final state of disposal are not being disposed off due to absence of the Director. Traps and raids are hardy conducted by Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) from last many months. Hope the lost glory of this institution is restored soon
