RAMBAN, Nov 18: Elected public representatives and inhabitants of four Panchayats of Ramban i.e Gandhari, Bhatni Kabi and Tangar Panchayats and other adjoining areas staged a strong protest demonstration and blocked Ramban-Gool road at Kanga against the PMGSY authorites.
They protest the PMGSY decision of changing the road selected for up-gradation under PMGSY III Batch 2 for Block Gandhri and not repairing the damaged road stretch on Kanga- Gandhari road near Gandhari which according to them is closed since long.
The protesters said the Kanga to Kothi Jagir Road having a length of 16.18 km which was selected for up-gradation under PMGSY 3rd phase needs to be dropped as a portion of 50 meters road stretch has sunk and it is advised to consider another road eligible for 3rd phase.
Locals said that only 50 meters of road stretch on the Kanga-Gandhri at KM number 11 is closed due to the sinking of a portion of the road. They said instead of mitigating the sufferings of the public by restoration of the road, the PMGSY authorities have dropped this road from up gradation.
They said during the current year, the Kanga Gandhari Bhatni link road was blocked on February 24 for a month and on 23 July 2022, due to the sinking of the road at KM, number 11, between Kanga and Gandhari. Due to this, they said Gandhari block of Ramban remained disconnected through the road from the District Headquarters town till August 2022. However, the PWD temporarily restored the road on 17 August 2022 by spending lakhs of rupees.
The protesting people said that after remaining open for a few days; the road had closed again on September 18 due to the sinking of the road at the same place. They said since then the road is closed and no restoration work has been carried out. They alleged that due to the closure of roads people in the area are facing hardships and problems.
Elected representatives besides some local political leaders also participated in the protest.
