JAMMU, Mar 10: District Gurudwara Prabandakh Committee (DGPC) Jammu today presented a memorandum to Union Health Minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad through Ex-Mayor, JMC and senior Congress leader, Manmohan Choudhary.
The Committee members today met Choudhary and apprised him about the genuine demands of the Sikh Community of the State. It was demanded that Government of India appoint a special committee to resolve all the long pending issues of Sikh refugees of 1947 including special package and launch of educational, economical and rehabilitation programme, in a time bound manner.
The members lamented that though the Sikhs are considered as minority in India under the Minority Commission Act 2C of 1992, but in J&K, some mischievious elements are creating hurdles for implementation of the same. They also expressed concern that despite the written orders the Punjabi language has not been properly implemented and introduced at School level in the State.
The committee members complained the senior Congress Minister that in recently created new districts of J&K, the requisite infrastructure for District Prabandak Committees as per Gurdawara Act has not been created till date and consequently the process of establishment of new Sikh bodies has been halted arbitrarily.
They further alleged that the Sikh representatives have been totally ignored in various recruitment bodies, recently held MLC elections as well as in selection of High Court Judges.
