Man electrocuted as live wire falls in Poonch, DC orders inquiry

POONCH, Mar 10: An elderly man was electrocuted and a large number of electronic gadgets of the people got damaged after a live cable was broken and fell down in a lane in Poonch town here today.
The incident took place at around 8.30 am today. The eyewitnesses  said that a live LT wire suddenly started sparking and  after touching other cables, it fell down in the lane at Mohalla Khori Nar in the town here. Panic griped the locality with it  and one Harbans Singh (ex-serviceman), son of Tarlok Singh got trapped in the cables and was electrocuted on the spot.
With this electric fault, apparently due to negligence on the part of PDD staff, nearly hundred TVs, refrigerators and other electronic gadgets of the people got damaged.  The critically injured Harbans who was shifted to local hospital by people was later declared dead by the doctors.
This incident evoked strong protest by public in the area. They started raising slogans against PDD and the local administration.  DC and SP Poonch also reached the spot and assured action in this regard. The DC ordered an inquiry in this concern. A three member committee led by Additional DC Jatinder Singh was framed and it was asked to submit report within a week. The public demanded compensation from the PDD for the damages caused to their electronic gadgets.  The DC summoned the PDD officers concerned and discussed the issue with them.
