Excelsior Correspondent

JAMMU, Aug 29: A meeting of Displaced Coordination Committee (DCC) was held at Durga Nagar today in which representatives from Bohri, Talab Tillo, Gangyal, Muthi, Barnai, Roop Nagar and other areas participated.
The meeting expressed grave concern over deletion of names of displaced people from Valley from the voter lists of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) there by depriving them of casting their votes in their respective wards.
The meeting resolved to fight tooth and nail against the forces and politicians having vested interests in debarring them from casting votes in ensuing municipal elections.
The meeting said that having already cast their vote in 2005 Municipal elections, it is astonishing that the names of displaced voters were deleted from voter lists later under a conspiracy generating a lot of resentment among the community.
They said how the Government can debar the displaced people of casting their vote in the Municipal elections when they are paying the development and other charges and were residing in the respective wards for last 30 years now. They said debarring them of voting rights is the murder of democracy.
