JAMMU, Dec 16: Vijay Choudhary, Corporator of Ward number 42, today said that Jammu Municipal Corporation has not yet released any funds for developmental works, which would be initiated in the ward only after as the necessary finances are made available by the concerned authorities.
However, the Corporator warned the sanitation staff that she would not tolerate any kind of slackness in their duty. She announced to conduct surprise visits in areas and check their work regularly. “Lack of funding is one thing but laziness towards the sanitation will not be tolerated,” she said.
The Corporator along with former Mayor JMC, Ch Manmohan Singh was holding a meeting with residents of Sector 2, Nanak Nagar and listening to the general grievances of the locals.
These residents highlighted their issues before Mrs Choudhary and said that the maximum street lights were not in working condition. Leakage of pipelines, pot holes on roads, bad condition of drains and lanes were also highlighted seeking immediate attention for necessary repair.
Mrs Choudhary said that the street lights will be repaired within two days and the leakage problem will also be resolved. She asked the sanitary staff present to clean the lanes daily and unclog the blocked drains too. She said that since there has been no funding from the Corporation and the extra manpower with vehicles needed have not been provided yet, the desilting of drains will be done later on.
People also complained about the stray dogs creating havoc in the area. Mrs Choudhary talked to the Municipal Vet Doctor and asked him to make arrangements to take these dogs away from the area. The most important issue for the people was the Landoi Choi Nallah, which is unable to hold the water flow during rains. The dirty water from the nallah enters houses every time during rains.
Vijay Choudhary said that she had already raised this issue in the General House meeting yesterday. “Though no funds have yet been provided, the Mayor has made an informal commitment of assigning Rs 10 lakh to every ward,” she added.
Ch Manmohan Singh and Vijay Choudhary were accompanied by Khoshal Singh, Mohinder Singh Dardi, Assa Singh, Naveen Gupta, Navjeet Singh Khalsa, Jaswant Singh, Rajinder Singh Pardhan, Pupple, Rinku and others.
