Srinagar, Dec 18: A day after Khyber milk was found ”unsafe” and ”substandard” for human consumption by the Drugs and Food Controller Organisation (DFCO), its head said that they would initiate action against the manufacturer, Khyber Agro Farms.
“We will take legal action against the manufacturer, Khyber Agro Farms for manufacturing substandard and unsafe milk which risks the human lives in the State and all stocks of such a lot will be destroyed,” Controller Drugs and Food Control Organization, Dr. Satish Gupta told Excelsior.
Food and Drugs Controller Department (FDC) had lifted a packaged toned milk sample dated July 2013 from Budgam and sent it to Kolkata’s Central Food Laboratory for analysis.
“The milk was found to be sub-standard, misbranded and unsafe by the laboratory. It conform to the standards as laid down under Regulation No. 2.1.1(1) of  Food Safety and Standards (Food Products and Food Additive) Regulations, 2011, since the sample shows milk fat and B.R. at 40 C (Extracted fat) lower than the prescribed limit,” Gupta said.
Immediately, the organization issued a circular on Tuesday to its designated officials to keep strict vigil over the movement of the lot under rules.
These revelations come a day after Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) had found a sample of a spice manufactured by M/s Kanwal Agro Food Industries Anantnag, “unsafe and carcinogenic” spice for humans.
SMC officials said they are filing a prosecution case today against the M/s Kanwal Agro Food Industries Anantnag for manufacturing “unsafe and carcinogenic” spices for humans, adulterated with Carmoisine and Tartrazine.
