JAMMU, Sept 25: Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) held a massive demonstration in front of Deputy Labour Commissioner’s Office here today in support of their long pending demands.
The activists of BMS from Jammu, Kathua and Samba districts participated in the demonstration.
Raising slogans in support of their demands the protestors held the apathy of the Government responsible for the same.
The protestors were demanding revision of minimum wages to Rs 200 per day, abolition of contract labour system on regular nature of job, payment of bonus to all the workers working in industries, private hospitals, nursing homes, shops and establishments, security guards and contract workers.
They also submitted a memorandum to Labour Minister through Deputy Labour Commissioner in this regard.
Addressing the demonstration Karnail Chand State president BMS alleged that the Government has failed to revise the minimum wages of industrial workers since 2009 where as prices of essential commodities are touching the sky. He demanded that minimum wages be fixed as Rs 6000 per month and Government should stop favoring the industrialists.
Harbans Choudhary while addressing the workers demanded that bonus should be given to all the workers and Labor Department should strictly implement the Bonus Act 1965. He said all employees are entitled to bonus whether employed by Principal employer or through labour contractors.
N K Gupta another leader alleged that minimum wages is not being implemented on Pvt school teachers and highly qualified teachers are getting very meager salary and private school management are exploiting the teachers State Government should fix the wages at least as per basic pay scale of Government teachers.
Shamsher Chand alleged that 12 hour duties are being taken by the so called big companies but wages are being paid hardly between 4000 to 6000 to a worker which is affecting the health and safety of the workers but factory inspectors responsible for checking this are least bothered to safeguard the workers interest.
Preetam Sharma accused the Labour Department of not protecting the interests of the working class.
