JAMMU, June 2: Army today dedicated a community center to the villagers from Dehri area located close to the Line of Control (LoC) in Mendhar sector.
The project was executed by an Army Battalion under the Border Area Development Programme (BADP) to meet the long pending demand of the people of this area.
The community center was handed over by the Brigade Commander to Nazir Hussain, Sarpanch of the Village in the presence of Tehsildar, BDO and SDPO Mendhar. The villagers thanked the Army for construction of this canter that will enable them to hold social and religious functions.
Speaking to the villagers on the occasion, Brigade Comm-ander appreciated the efforts of civil administration in reaching out to the forward villages and convergence of various departments to extend the benefits to the needy locals.
It is pertinent to mention here that earlier on May 2, Army had dedicated two community centers to forward villages at Dharati and Chhapardhara in adjoining Balakote sector to meet the aspirations of local population residing ahead of the LoC fence. Army has initiated large number of development projects in these border villages in close coordination with the civil administration.
The work on check dam at village Dharati is nearing completion and will provide water for irrigation and drinking in the area. Agriculture department had recently distributed seeds and fertilizers to local farmers of the area to improve the yield of crops. Similarly, other development projects to include construction of roads/tracks, bridges, stadia etc are at various stages of completion. The local villagers have also been provided poly-houses and Vermi compost units as part of pilot project in the area.
