Pedestrian knocked to death by tanker

RAMBAN, May 27: An oil tanker hit a man near Khoni Nallah in Badwan area here today leaving him dead.
According to Police, the accident occurred at around 2 pm and the oil tanker bearing registration number JK02CR-1217 was driven by Sanjeep Kumar, son of Jagdish Lal Choudhary, resident of R.S Pura, Jammu.
The tanker was on its way to Srinagar and it hit one Layqit Ali, son of Mohd Yousaf, resident of Khoni Nallah, Badwan after which Ali fell into a deep gorge with critical injuries and died on the spot.
Police said that the driver fled from the scene immediately after the accident but cops at a Naka outside Police Station Ramsoo intercepted the vehicle and arrested the driver.
Teams from SDRF and Civil Quick Response Team carried out a rescue operation and retrieved the body of the accident victim from the gorge and shifted it to PHC Ramsoo for post-mortem and other legal formalities.
SSP Ramban, Arun Gupta informed that Police have registered a case in this regard at Police Station Ramsu and started investigation.
