KATHUA, May 27: BJP MLA from Jasrota, Rajiv Jasrotia, on Wednesday inaugurated a 15 KLD DEWAT (Decentralized Wastewater Treatment) plant for grey water filtration at Panchayat Hamirpur.
Constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 21 lakh, the project has been designed to scientifically treat household grey water and facilitate its reuse for non-potable purposes, thereby helping improve sanitation standards and groundwater recharge in the area.
The newly commissioned DEWAT facility is expected to play an important role in reducing water pollution and ensuring better utilization of wastewater generated from households. The treated water can be used for irrigation and other secondary purposes, reducing pressure on fresh water resources while contributing to environmental conservation.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA Rajiv Jasrotia emphasized the importance of sustainable water management and public participation in maintaining community assets. He said that the initiative reflects the Government’s commitment towards rural development and environmental protection. He urged local residents to take collective responsibility for the upkeep of the plant and adopt water-conservation practices in their daily lives.
“The DEWAT system will not only help in improving sanitation but will also create awareness among people regarding the importance of wastewater management and water reuse. Such projects are crucial for ensuring a cleaner and healthier environment in rural areas,” Jasrotia said while addressing the gathering.
Later the MLA continued his public outreach campaign by holding a series of meetings in different villages under Panchayat Mangloor East. The first interaction was held at village Ladoli, after which he visited village Sounthal and village Logate to directly interact with residents and review developmental requirements in the area.
The local residents and representatives raised several issues concerning road repairs, irregular power supply, irrigation facilities, drinking water concerns, and pending developmental works under various rural schemes. People also highlighted the need for better civic amenities and faster execution of sanctioned projects.
Jasrotia assured the villagers that all genuine concerns would be addressed in a phased and time-bound manner. He instructed the concerned departments and officials to submit action-taken reports on the issues highlighted during the meetings and reiterated his commitment to ensuring balanced and inclusive development across the constituency.
