123 bovine animals rescued, 10 smugglers arrested

UDHAMPUR, May 28: In major success, Police today foiled five separate attempts of bovine smuggling under the jurisdiction of Udhampur Police Station and rescued 123 numbers of cattle besides arresting 10 accused smugglers.
While one truck (JK02AS- 8717) loaded with 18 bovine animals was intercepted at Jakhani, the Police teams caught four more groups of 105 bovine animals from Battal Ballian, Jakhani and Bharat Nagar area when the alleged smugglers were taking the cattle towards Kashmir without any valid permission.
All 123 bovine animals in total were rescued and the bovine smugglers namely Sameer Ahmed, son of Mushtaq Ahmed of Banihal; Mohd Rafi, son of Mohd Ramzan of Kheri; Mohd Sharif, son of Fazal Din of Thard, Bali; Manzoor Ali, son of Yousuf Mohd of RS Pura, Jammu; Mohd Asif, son of Mohd Ramzan of Thard; Showkat Ali, son of Hussain of Ramban; Bhag Hussain, son of Kalu of Bishnah; Noor Illahi, son of Gh Ali of Jammu; Mojd Din, son of Saraj Din of Jammu and Shabir Ahmed, son of Abdul Gani of Jammu were arrested on the spot.
In this connection, cases have been registered at Police Station Udhampur under relevant sections of law and further investigation is going on.
The bovine smuggling attempts were foiled by a Police team, led by SHO Udhampur, Vijay Singh Choudhary, under the supervision of SSP Udhampur, Rajiv Pandey; Addl SP Rajinder Singh Katoch and Dy SP Headquarters, Udhampur, Dr Rohit Chadgal.
