UDHAMPUR, Feb 12: A young couple from Ploura in Jammu was knocked to death when a Tanker hit their motorcycle on the National Highway near Battal Ballian, here this morning.
The deceased were identified as Bharat Singh (30), son of Jagdish Singh of Ploura and his wife Kajal (25). They were riding the motorcycle JK02BG-9404 when a rashly driven Tanker hit their bike resulting into on the spot death of the duo.
Driver of the tanker was held by the locals and later handed over to Police, which also reached the spot.
The locals, who had assembled there after the accident, later held a strong protest demonstration against the administration for its failure to maintain safety measures on the National Highway in this thickly populated area.
They raised slogans and blocked the National Highway for some time before being pacified by Police and Civil administration.
Meanwhile, in another road mishap, driver of truck was seriously injured after a tipper hit his vehicle on Dhar road near Channi Morh. The injured, identified as Ravinder Singh, son of Vakil Singh of Round Mail, Udhampur, was shifted to District Hospital Udhampur where doctors referred him to GMC Hospital Jammu in view of his serious condition.
