JAMMU, Mar 22: World Water Day was celebrated here today.
World Water Day was organized by Communication and Capacity Development Unit, WSSO, Department of PHE, I&FC Jammu through Swarangan Meditation Charitable Trust to implement UN theme on World Water Day i.e. “Leaving no one behind” and also to sensitize the allied departments regarding water, sanitation and hygiene under the guidelines of National Rural Drinking Water and Sanitation Programme (NRDWP) at Institution of Engineers (India), Jammu Local Centre, Channi Himmat. On the occasion, Er Vinod Kumar Gupta, Executive Director, CCDU presided over the function. Er Ashok Kumar Gandotra, Chief Engineer, PHE Department, Jammu, Er Ajay Gupta, Former Chairman IEI, Jammu Centre and Retd. Development Commissioner Power were the special invitees. Earlier, Er Gopal Sharma, AEE, CCDU welcomed all the dignitaries on the occasion. The programme was also attended by hundreds of students from Government College for Women Parade and Gandhi Nagar, Jammu. The proceedings of the World Water Day were conducted by Er Mohinder Manhas and Huzzaifah Shah. Rakesh Gupta Deputy Director, CWC, Dr. Vikas Sharma Prof. and HoD SKUAST, Dr RA Pir Scientist, CGWB, Er PK Nanda, Dr VS Verma Prof SKUAST, Er Vijay Sharma Honorary Secretary IEI, Payal Dogra, Managing Trustee of Swarangan NGO were among others present on the occasion.
NCC Unit of Girdari Lal Dogra Memorial Degree College, Hiranagar celebrated World Water Day. On the occasion, a painting competition was held on the theme “Rain Water Harvesting” in which about 15 cadets participated. Principal of the College Dr Tilak Raj Sharma presided over the event. The whole event was supervised by Dr Virender Pal Singh, ANO of the college. Prof Daya Vilas, Dr PK Bambroo, Prof Rakesh Sharma, Dr Renu, Dr Neeru Sharma, Dr Sapna Bhargav and Prof Karam Chand were also present on the occasion.
2 J&K Girls Battalion NCC of GDC RS Pura celebrated World Water Day under the guidance of the College Principal Dr. Sunita Sudan and under the supervision of Lt Shaveta Chowdhary, ANO. A lecture on “Rain Water Harvesting” was delivered by Prof Esha Abrol, Assistant Professor in EVS.
World Water Day was celebrated in Government MAM College Jammu. The welcome address was presented by Dr Karan Singh Associate NCC officer. On the occasion NCC cadets expressed their views regarding World Water Day. A poster making activity on the theme “Leaving No One behind” was also conducted. The faculty members who enlightened the students with their charismatic oration were Dr Rakesh Kumar Koul (Coordinator IQAC), Prof Rakesh Sharma and Prof Sajjad Iqbal. The invited chief guest Ashok Kumar Kalsi DFO SFC Jammu Urban in his address emphasized the need of awareness to be spread among masses regarding water conservation/ preservation and gave a detailed description of water table. Principal of the College presided over the function. The programme was organized by Dr Karan Singh and his team of NCC cadets.
World Water Day was celebrated at Ghoumanhasa by National Development Organiz-ation Jammu in collaboration with Public Technocrats Society Jammu. The programme was inaugurated by chief guest Rajinder Singh Chib and Vice President Krishan Lal. The programme was presided over by Manoj Kumar Bani, EO Municipal Committee Ghouma-nhasa. During the programme lanes and drains were cleaned and banner regarding the subject were also displayed at different locations. An awareness programme was also organized regarding the cleanliness drive. In the end, Chairman of Public Technocrats Society Arun Khajuria presented vote of thanks.
