SRINAGR, Sept 10: J&K Tourism Department is gearing up to celebrate the World Tourism Day on September 27 across the State. The theme of this year’s World Tourism Day is “Millions of Tourists, Millions of Opportunities”
The decision in this regard was conveyed by Secretary Tourism, Farooq Ahmad Shah at a high level meeting convened for the purpose.
Giving details on the scheduled programmed, Shah said the main function will be organised at SKICC Srinagar and TRC Jammu. He said the function will include interaction between travel traders, civil society and other stake holders. This will be followed by a talk on the same theme and an opera on the cultural diversity of the State.
It was informed that the CEOs of all Tourism Development Authorities will celebrate World Tourism Day at their respective destinations and will coordinate with the educational institutions in the area as well. They will also ensure participation of registered travel bodies in the area. Mr. Shah urged the concerned officer to ensure that eco tourism in the State is promoted through this endeavor.
It was decided in the meeting that Institute of Hotel Management, Srinagar will organize a capacity building programme especially for the guides/ tourist facilitators of Gulmarg, Pahalgam and Sonamarg.
On the occasion, a Shikara Festival will also be organized.
