JAMMU, May 8: With ‘Everywhere for everyone’ as theme of this year, the World Red Cross Day was today observed by various organizations across Jammu and Kashmir to commemorate the Birth Anniversary of “Sir Henry Dunant”, the founder of Red Cross Movement.
Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS), Jammu, organized a function to mark the birth anniversary of Jean Henry Dunant, recipient of first Nobel Peace Prize. Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, Dr MK Bhandari was the chief guest while Additional District Development Commissioner, Anuradha Gupta, SSP Jammu, Dr Sunil Gupta and Dr Rajinder Thappa were also present. Cultural items were presented by various schools of Jammu district whereas a symposium was also organized on the theme.
IRCS Jammu also organized medical checkup camps in various areas like Viraj Bal Bhawan School, Khanpur (Nagrota), Government Middle School, Tange Wali Gali (Kachi Chawni, Jammu), Canal Road for morning walkers and at Red Cross Attendants’ Sarai, Maheshpura Chowk (Jammu) during the week.
The NSS unit of Ramisht College of Education, Basohli as well as Ramisht Twinkling Star Public Higher Secondary School, Basholi organized awareness programmes in their premises on the occasion of Red Cross Day. Almost all the students took part in the programmes during which they were briefed by the faculty members on the significance of the Day.
Government Higher Secondary School Budhi (Kathua) organized a programme to observe World Red Cross Day in its premises. A symposium on Red Cross Day was held in which Vishali and Monika of 12th class expressed their views. The Red Cross pledge was administered to all the students and staff members.
On the occasion of Red Cross Day, a special morning assembly was held in Army Public School, Jammu Cantt to brief the students on the significance of the day. With the motto to mobilize the power of humanity, the school in association with 166 MH organized a blood donation camp in which the teaching and non teaching staff members donated blood.
At Udhampur, the day was observed with a rally taken out on the occasion from Government Higher Secondary School which was flagged off by Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Subhash Chander Dogra, Udhampur. The rally was followed by a short function in which students threw light on the philanthropic services of the Red Cross Society. Besides, medical camps were also organized in every block of the district.
At Poonch, the event was observed across the district with its main programme held at Krishan Chander Park. DC Poonch, Mohammad Harun, who is the Chairman of District Red Cross Society (DRCS), was chief guest. A debate competition was organized on the occasion. Earlier, the Deputy Commissioner along with SSP and others flagged off a rally which commenced from Government Girls Model Higher Secondary School Poonch and culminated at Krishan Chander Park.
At Ramban, a Red Cross Mela as well as Cultural and Sports Carnival were organized. District Development Commissioner, Mohammad Aijaz, inaugurated the Red Cross Mela and launched the Red Cross Express. A musical programme was also organized. The event will conclude on May 10 with Raffle Draw and a cultural bonanza. Besides, the Red Cross Conferences by Rural Development Department and Red Cross Health Mela by Health Department were also organized at Block levels in the district.
At Doda, the District Red Cross Society in collaboration with Government Boys Higher Secondary School organized various activities to observe the day. DC, Bhupinder Kumar, was the chief guest. The activities organized on the occasion include painting competition, rangooli, debate and cultural items on the theme of Red Cross Day. Earlier, the DDC flagged off a rally of students carrying banners depicting various health messages. Marching through the town, the rally finally culminated at HSS Boys. Also, a symposium on the theme ‘Everywhere for everyone’ was organized at Government Girls Higher Secondary School Gowari. Besides, GDC Bhaderwah organized a seminar on the themes and objectives of the International Red Cross Society.
At Reasi, the district administration observed the Red Cross Day with a huge participation of officers, RCS volunteers, prominent citizens and students. DC, Ravinder Kumar, was the chief guest on the occasion. A small movie of Red Cross activities in the district was displayed on the occasion. A rally was also flagged off by the DC which was attended by local volunteers, cadets of National Cadet Corp (NCC), teachers, students and women. Meanwhile, RCS activities were also celebrated in schools and other institutions at Mahore, Dharmari, Pouni and Arnas.
In Srinagar, various programmes highlighting the significance of the Day were held today at Government Higher Secondary School Kothi Bagh, Srinagar. To mark the Day and promote its humanitarian values, a blood donation camp, painting competition and a seminar highlighting the role and importance of Red Cross Mission were organized by State chapter of Indian Red Cross Society at the school. Approximately 50 points of blood was donated by the volunteers. On the occasion, various speakers stressed the need of augmenting Red Cross Society so that it can play its role effectively in rescue and relief during any eventuality.
