JAMMU, June 1: A one-day workshop on “Production and Promotion of Export quality Traditional Basmati rice of RS Pura” was inaugurated today by Daljeet Singh, Vice-Chairman, J&K Board for Development of Kissan, here at Krishi Vigyaan Kendra, RS Pura.
The programme was organized by the Department of Agriculture, Jammu and sponsored by BEDF (Basmati Export Development Foundation) Modipuram, UP. Dr Gagan Bhagat, MLA, RS Pura was also present on the occasion.
Besides, Dr Ritesh Sharma (BEDF, Modipurum UP), Padam Dr VP Singh, All India Rice Exporters’ Association, Dr SS Jamwal, Director Agriculture, Dr KS Risam, Director Extension and Dr JP Sharma, Director Research, SKAUST-Jammu, delivered the technical lectures on the subject.
Speaking on the occasion, Daljeet Singh paid a patience hearing to the problems faced by the farming community and promised their early redressal. Dr Gagan Bhagat discussed the problem faced by Basmati growing farmers and assured full support in development of Basmati being the pride and valuable crop of the area.
Dr SS Jamwal gave detailed deliberation about the importance of cultivation of Basmati in Jammu division especially in the areas of RS Pura, Bishnah, Samba and Kathua districts. He said that Basmati rice requires less nutrients and water as compared to other coarse and semi fine varieties. He stressed upon the organic cultivation of Basmati rice.
Chief Agriculture Officer, Jammu, CM Sharma apprised about the achievements of organic cultivation of Basmati rice in Jammu district.
Among other officers who participated in the programme included Matinder Singh, Harjeet Singh, BB Sidha, Ravinder Kachroo, Dr Gayartri Tandon, Sagar Sharma, DD Bhagat and Vikas Koushal.
