JAMMU, Aug 20: A woman today allegedly committed suicide by setting self on fire at her residence in Bishnah area of city outskirts.
According to a police spokesperson, the woman identified as Ashu Devi (30) wife of Ajay Kumar, a resident of Luswara (Bishnah) this evening attempted suicide by setting self on fire after pouring kerosene oil on her.
Noticing flames the family members came to the rescue of the woman and doused flames but till then the woman had been burnt severely. In serious condition, the woman was shifted to Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu, where she expired at about 6.45 pm.
The body of the deceased was shifted to mortuary room of the hospital for post mortem. A case under relevant sections has been registered in this connection at police station Bishnah and further investigation in the case is on.
