Weapon snatching from security forces by militants and their over ground workers have taken an ugly turn. This is a serious threat for security forces. Govt should evolve a comprehensive policy to minimize the chances of weapon snatching by militants in the State. There is need to impart specialized training to troops particularly J&K Police personnel to safeguard their weapons. From past incidents of weapon snatching, it is revealed that almost all such incidents happened with J&K police personnel who were deployed for guard and duties of VIPs/political leaders. As regards Army and para military forces, they are well versed in handling of weapons and no such incident happened with them. J&K police personnel are the soft targets of militants/weapon snatchers as they are not so adequately trained in handling of weapons There is urgent need to change the strategy by the security forces while performing their duties in counter insurgency areas of J&K state.
