JAMMU, Mar 19: Pradesh Vishwakarma Shaba, J&K (women Wing), organised a mega conference on “ Women Empowerment” here today under the chairmanship of Lakhpat Rai while Neelam Bourney and Neelam Salaria were the guests of honour on the occasion.
The function started with Vishwakarma Pooja. Lakhpat Rai, speaking on the occasion, wished that women leadership will go a long way for the welfare of society. He said that Indian democracy has matured enough to achieve the gender equality over the period of seventy five years.
Prominent speakers include Veena Chalotra, Nirmala Chargotra, Sonia Verma from Akhnoor, Sushma Verma, Ratna Chargotra, Sonia Verma (Panch), Santosh Chargotra. All speakers stressed on the participation of women in politics, armed forces, sports and Business entrepreneurs. Speakers also raised their voice against atrocities on women on the name of dowry and poverty. They emphasised that girl child should never become the victim of Gender bias. Some speakers thanked Dr BR Ambedkar who enshrined total equality to the women in the Constitution of India.
Vandana Sagar Chargotra, the newly appointed President of the Women Wing, appealed that women should claim their equal status by inculcating the leadership qualities in them. She said, “our young girls are doing better and better in the field of Education, Polity, Defence, Judiciary, Art and literature and much more is still awaited.” She added that women should come out of their domestic bonding and work at par with men. There is dire need to free the Women from superstitions and bad customs.
Shashi Verma, President of Vishwakarma Sabha, said that drug abuse and other social evils are a threat to the society and youth should be educated to keep away from this menace. He also reiterated the demand of a Gazetted holiday on “Vishwakarma Day”.
