Villagers mourn Army jawan’s killing

Qazipora (Budgam), May 20: Villagers of Qazipora in central Kashmir’s Budgam district today left their routine work to mourn the death of a local Army jawan, who was killed during an encounter at Konsarmulla village yesterday.
After the killing of Mushtaq Ahmad Mir, scores of men, women and children started pouring in to his house to share the grief with his family members including his wife, parents and two small children.
Women folk were wailing over his death and men were looking in deep shock.
“Nobody in the village have ate food or drank water from yesterday afternoon, after the word of his death spread here,” the Bashir Ahmad, an elderly villager said.
Relatives of the slain Mir, who joined Indian Army seven years back, said that he was at home on the fateful day till afternoon and had lunch with his family members.
“Mushtaq was on leave to renovate his house till noon and after a call from his camp in Nagam to join the camp and within two hours, we heard that he (Mushtaq) was killed in a neighbouring village in a gunfight,” they said.
Villagers, relatives, friends and scores of people from neighbouring villages had assembled to participate in his funeral and to see him one last time before his burial. “We are here to see him last time, as he was a humble soul and he had never hurt anyone in the village,” they said.
Villagers including some men in uniform were shouting slogans and women were seen singing eulogies for him after his corpse was handed over to the villagers by police and Army forces.
