JAMMU, July 23: Minister of State for Power and Technical Education, Vikar Rasool reviewed the functioning of Power Development Department at a high level meeting here today.
During the meeting threadbare discussions were held on various vital issues pertaining to the Power Development Department besides implementation of various welfare schemes. The Minister asked the concerned officers to float tenders of meters under phase II of LT/HT repair scheme under Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyutikaran Yojna (RGGVY) immediately so that the un-metered areas would be covered in a shortest possible time.
The Minister announced Rs. 4 crore each for Jammu and Kashmir to upgrade the existing overloaded transformers according to the feasibility and Rs. 1 crore for maintenance/repair of transformers in Jammu division to improve the power scenario immediately.
He gave specific instructions to speed up the process of implementation of R-APDRP, RGGVY and other schemes at grass root level. He stressed for necessary improvement on HT and LT lines under phase II at the earliest to reduce power. He said that scores of power projects have been completed in the state and by completion of remaining projects, the power scenario in the State would be improved. He said that all most all the un-electrified areas of the State are electrified under RGGVY and other welfare schemes.
The Minister asked the Chief Engineer PDD to ensure replacement/repair of the transformers in a minimum time period particularly in remote and farthest areas and take necessary steps to overcome power pilferage through hooking, unregistered power load etc and called for keeping a close check on such practices.
