Vehicles worth Rs 36 lakh attached in bovine smuggling cases

RAMBAN, May 24: Police here today attached vehicles worth Rs. 36 lakh (aprox) under Section 107 of BNSS in two separate cases linked to bovine smuggling activities.
The action was taken during the investigation of cases registered in FIR No. 197/2025 under Section 223 of BNS and Section 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act and FIR No. 33/2026 registered under Section 223 BNS and Section 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.
During investigation, it surfaced that the accused persons have accumulated disproportionate assets through proceeds generated from bovine smuggling and other illegal activities. Further investigation established that the vehicles purchased by the accused were acquired from the proceeds of crime linked to bovine smuggling operations.
Acting promptly, Ramban Police obtained attachment orders from the competent court and in the presence of Executive Magistrate, attached the vehicles with numbers JK19A-3199, owned by Tosif Ahmed Mir, son of Ahadullah Mir, resident of Ward No. 07, Tehsil Batote, with an estimated value of approximately Rs. 27 lakhs along with the vehicle number JK14J-1971, owned by Basharat Hussain, son of Ghulam Mohammad, resident of Latti Dhuna, Tehsil Latti-Marothi, District Udhampur, with an estimated value of approximately Rs. 9 lakh.
