JAMMU, May 24: A Jammu Walkathon in support of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan – Drug Free India Campaign was organised by KIRF-J&K in collaboration with Jammu Tourism at Maharaja Hari Singh Park today. The event was supported by the Jammu & Kashmir Cricket Association as part of the national 100 Days Drug Free India Campaign.
The walkathon witnessed an overwhelming response, with participants from different walks of life gathering early in the morning to support the cause of a drug-free society. Prominent runners, sportspersons and fitness enthusiasts from across Jammu actively took part in the awareness drive, spreading the message of fitness and healthy living. Joint Director Tourism, Aijaz Qaisar, graced the occasion as chief guest, while Anissa Nabi, Deputy Director Urban Local Bodies attended as guest of honour.
Addressing the gathering, chief guest encouraged youth to adopt sports and healthy activities to stay away from substance abuse and lead disciplined lives. He appreciated the organisers for their continued efforts in creating awareness against drug addiction.
Anissa Nabi highlighted the physical, mental and social consequences of drug abuse and stressed the importance of community participation and youth engagement in ensuring success of such campaigns.
Chairperson KIRF-J&K, Dr Imran Khan, expressed gratitude to all participants and supporting organisations. He said more awareness and fitness programmes would be organised in the coming months with focus on youth empowerment and healthy lifestyles.
The event concluded with the distribution of mementos to sponsors, reinforcing a strong message of unity, fitness and collective responsibility towards a drug-free Jammu & Kashmir and India.
