JAMMU, Nov 1: A vehicle lifter from Uttar Pradesh today managed to decamp with TATA Safari from outside the well protected house of National Conference leader and Vijaypur MLA Surjit Singh Slathia, a former Minister, in Trikuta Nagar this afternoon but Samba police seized the vehicle and arrested the car lifter.
Police have suspended two police personnel including Kalyan Singh, Guard Incharge and Darshan Kumar, Sentry on duty at Slathia’s residence for dereliction of duty as the car lifter managed to take away TATA Safari bearing No. 0234 JK02AL from outside the house of the MLA in broad day light.
As police flashed message of the car theft immediately, a NC worker Subash Singh, who was also aware of the theft, spotted the vehicle moving towards Samba at Patli Morh in Vijaypur and chased it in his car. He also informed Vijaypur and Samba police.
Police parties, which had already laid nakas on the Highway, intercepted the vehicle at Raya Morh in Vijaypur and recovered it. The vehicle lifter, who was driving the vehicle, was arrested. He has been identified as Imam-ud-Din son of Nizam-ud-Din R/o Ratanpura Kalan Bilari in Moradabad area of Uttar Pradesh.
Police parties headed by SSP Samba Anil Magotra and SDPO Vijaypur SS Samyal supervised the operation on the Highway to recover the vehicle, which was later handed over to Trikuta Nagar police station along with the car lifter for registration of a case against him.
Meanwhile, SDPO Trikuta Nagar Mohammad Rafiq visited the residence of Slathia and reviewed security in the area.
