POONCH, Mar 3: The residents of Tehsil Mandi are suffering for the last several years due to non-availability of Surgeon specialist, Child specialist, Physician, Gynecologist, Anesthesia consultant, at Sub District Hospital Mandi (SDH).
Sources said that the posts of various specialist doctors have not been filled up for the last over six years in remote Mandi Hospital of district Poonch. The previous governments have failed to fill up these vacant posts.
The locals said that Government must address this genuine issue of the locals on priority basis. This SDH Mandi cater to the needs of a large population from Mandi Sub Division including Loran, Sawjian and scores of adjoining villages. These poor people from this area have been deprived of the proper health care facilities.
The locals said that due to absence of the specialist doctors, they are forced to visit private clinics and other health institutions for specialized treatment. Eight Medical officers’ posts were created in SDH Mandi but unfortunately five MOs are working tirelessly day and night, who also attend the patients in Out Patient Department (OPD).
An insider said, “Five Medical officers (MO) are handling the OPD section where as more than 1000 patients visit every day. They are unable to handle such a huge rush and need more staff there. It said two specialist doctors from the SDH Mandi managed their transfers and no replacement has been provided at their place.
Locals urged the Lt Governor and Health Commissioner to provide specialist doctors at SDH Mandi so that sufferings of the people are mitigated.
