Various events organized to commemorate International Women’s Day

JAMMU, Mar 7: Various events were organized to commemorate International Women’s Day.
Cultural and NSS unit of KCS College of Education (Women) organized a function to commemorate International Women’s Day. The function was inaugurated by Principal of the institution Prof OP Sharma in presence of Convener, Cultural Committee, Divya Sharma, Prof Romesh Verma, HoD MEd Wing, Ruchika Chib, Staff secretary, staff members and students. On the occasion, students of BEd, MEd and Polytechnic exhibited their talent in folk dances, group songs, solo songs, speeches, skit and poetry recitation.
Jammu Sanskriti School observed International Women’s Day. Various activities were held in the school campus to promote, celebrate and empower girl education. In her message, Rohini Aima, Principal-cum-Vice Chairperson threw light on the importance of the day.
To celebrate International Women’s Day, the district SVEEP Cell, Reasi organized “Mega Women Electoral Conference” here today. Over 1500 women attended the conference which was chaired by Deputy Commissioner Reasi, District Election Officer Sushma Chauhan. Senior Superintendent of Police Reasi Sujit Kumar, Program Officer ICDS Project Nawab Din, PO DRDA Dr Jagdish Mehra, DSWO Rafiq Ahmad, ARTO Rajesh Gupta, AD Megha Bagoia, AD Employment Sulakshana Thakur, DIO Parvinder Kour, CEO Ashok Sanyal also participated in the mega event. An electoral literacy exhibition was also inaugurated by the DC accompanied by SSP Reasi on this occasion. Photographs from venues of SVEEP Campaign from across the district along with electoral literacy material of ECI, locally developed electoral literacy material in vernacular languages, photographs of district icons, achievements of electoral awareness, cartoons and caricatures were displayed in the exhibition. A symposium on “More She Votes; Stronger the Democracy” was also organized on the occasion. A special female Electoral Registration Counter was also established at mini secretariat.
A programme to celebrated International Women’s Day was organized by the women employees of LIC and GIC at Jammu under the banner of Women Sub Committee Northern Zone Insurance Employees Association, J&K. The event was presided over by Neelam Sharma, Convener of Women Sub Committee who highlighted the importance of the day. Among others who spoke were Sunayna Pandita, members of the Divisional Committee NZIEA J&K including Divisional Secretary Pawan Gupta, joint secretaries Romesh Chand and Rajesh Gupta, vice president SK Bhat, Raj Kumar, Dinesh Sharma, Nanak Chand and Kishore.
Expressing concern over the alarming census data released recently by Registrar General of India under Union Home Ministry, with regard to tribal women of Jammu and Kashmir, Dr Javaid Rahi, Secretary, Tribal Research and Cultural Foundation demanded extra ordinary measure for them to pull them out of the darkness of illiteracy and the ignorance associated with. He was speaking in a programme organized in connection with International Women’s Day. The other speakers stated that the Gujjar-Bakarwal women of Jammu and Kashmir live in utter deprivation due to poverty, illiteracy, nomadic way of life, early marriage, superstitions, traditional neglect and lack of awareness about welfare schemes. They said TRCF will submit a memorandum to J&K Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and Tribal Affairs Minister Choudhary Zulfkar Chowdhary with the request to devise special plan for educational development of Gujjar-Bakarwal women.
On the occasion of International Women’s Day, young women of the State were honored with “Young women achiever Awards” during a programme organised by Nirvana academy and Indian Red Cross society Jammu Region in association with Government College for Women, Parade. Shantmanu, Divisional Commissioner was chief guest, whileas Hemla Aggarwal, Principal of GCW Parade was guest of honour. RC Puri, Secretary, Indian Red Cross Society Jammu region and Hitesh Badyal, president, Nirvana Academy were also present. The women who were conferred Young Women Achiever Award and Certificate of Excellence included Sushma Chauhan, Arunima Sinha (Spirituality), Aarushi Thakur (Drama and Theater), Mukteshi Sharma (Music), Sapna Soni (Film, TV and Entertainment), Anuradha Seth Kohli (Dance), Navneet Kour (Social activist/NGO), Rashim Anand (Education), Dr Neelam Khajuria (Health and Wellness), Suneeta Bhagat (RJ/VJ), Shivangi Gupta (Entrepreneur), Bhanu Priya Sharma (Media), Dr Milan Sharma (Painting and Visual Arts) along with Sunita Kargotra (Chief Prosecutor Officer) and Sister Therese Franicis as special outstanding women. The Award of Excellence along with Certificate were presented to Manika Sharma and Palavi Sharma (Sports), Juhi Singh (Drama and Theater), Indu Bala (Music), Neha Lalotra (Film, TV and Entertainment), Kritika Sharma and Tanuja Chahar Chettri (Dance), Bushra Hassan, Deepika Pandita and Rahat Mir (Social Activist/NGO), Gurcharan Kour (Education), Mohua Gupta (Painting) and Gupta in (Lifestyle and Fashion).
