JAMMU, Mar 7: The Jammu and Kashmir Police is organizing All India Police Martyrs Memorial Hockey Tournament from March 10, 2015 at KK Hakhu Astroturf Hockey Stadium, here. Apart from the trophies and mementoes, the winner of the Tournament will be awarded a cash prize of Rs 50,000, while the runners-up and the third place holder will receive a cash prize of Rs 30,000 and Rs 20,000 respectively.
This was informed by Director General of Police (DGP), J&K and Chairman of the Organizing Committee, K Rajendra Kumar while addressing media persons at PHQ, Gulshan ground, here today.
He was accompanied by  ADGP S P Vaid, ADGP Armed, SM Sahai, Organizing Secretary of the Tournament and Director General Youth Services and Sports, Navin Agarwal, besides other officers.
He said a total of 12 States /CPOs, with around 250 participants, will be taking part in the this sporting extravaganza.
Mr Rajendra said that instituted in the year 2006, All India Police Martyrs’ Memorial Hockey Tournament is annually dedicated as a tribute to officers and officials of  J&K Police  who have made the supreme sacrifice of  their precious lives in upholding the sovereignty and integrity of our nation so that the radiance of the immortal glory of martyrs’ will always continue to inspire the entire Police Forces of the State for greater determination to neutralize all the forces that threaten the very sovereignty and integrity of our great nation.
“Resolving to ensure that the forces of darkness and destruction do not eclipse reasoning and goodness, 1439 officers and officials of Jammu & Kashmir Police including 1 DIG, 1SP, 20 DySPs, 23 Inspectors, 33 Sub Inspectors, 59 ASIs, 137 HCs, 169 Sgcts, 490 Constables, 20 followers and 486 SPOs (Special Police Officers)have laid down their lives in combating terrorism during last over two decades right from the eruption of militancy in the State in the year 1989, besides numerous sacrifices during the wars of 1947, 1962, 1965 and 1971, ” Mr Rajendra expressed.
Mr Rajendra further said that these men of substance have fought valiantly against the forces of death and destruction with honour and dignity; embraced death on the alter of duty for the just cause to maintain the security and territorial integrity of the country and to protect the lives and property of the people, adding that every drop of blood shed by our comrades in uniform will continue to inspire us for the noble cause for which they sacrificed their today for our tomorrow. “They will be remembered and remembered with respect and admiration for all they did, stood for and symbolized”.
For the smooth and successful conduct of the event, besides organizing committee headed by DGP J&K, various sub committees headed by IGPs have been constituted for arranging and supervising various activities being carried out during event under the overall supervision of Chairman & Organizing Secretary of the event.
The sub Committees  constituted include Conduct/Ground Prep/Opening & Closing/Hospitality Committees, Jury of Appeal , Media Relations/ Publicity  and Invitation committees, Transport/ Accommodation Committees, Security/ Traffic/L&O Committees, Medical Committees and Games Secretariat  Committees.
The Championship will be conducted according to the rules of game of Hockey and regulations of the Hockey India (HI).
The championship will be conducted on knock out basis and all matches will be played at K K Hakhu Stadium Jammu.
The opening ceremony will be held at 11 am on March 10, 2015 at KK Hakhu Astro Turf Stadium, Jammu, wherein Moulvi Raza Ansari, Minister for Information Technology, Technical Education and Youth Services and Sports J&K will be the chief guest, while  the closing ceremony will take place on March 14, 2015 at 4 pm at KK Hakhu Astro turf Stadium, Jammu, wherein Dr Nirmal Singh, Deputy Chief Minister, J&K will be the chief guest.
Special arrangement have been made for presence of  NOKs of Police Martyrs on the occasion of closing ceremony, where chief guest and senior Police Officers will interact with them,  to hear the problems faced by them for speedy redressal. As a token of love, respect and affection, families of Police martyrs will be presented gifts in a presentation ceremony.
It is pertinent to mention here that besides maintaining Law & Order, peace and tranquility in the State, J&K Police is creating identity in sports culture by incessant performance of police personnel at National/International level. J&K Police Sports personnel are backbone of J&K State sports bodies while representing the Country at highest level.
