JAMMU, Dec 6: Government is making tireless efforts to solve the unemployment problem for which several self employment schemes have been launched to tap potential sectors.
This was stated by the Chairman Legislative Council, Amit Malhotra while interacting with a group of unemployed educated youth of Jammu who called on him here today.
Mr. Malhotra said that MNREGA and Sher-i- Kashmir Employment Welfare Programme are two main schemes which would certainly help change the whole scenario of unemployment problem in the State.
The Chairman exhorted upon educated unemployed youth to come forward and avail the employment schemes being implemented by specialized departments such as agriculture, animal husbandry, poultry farming, horticulture, apiculture, etc. He asked them to organize themselves in Self Help Groups (SHG) to get maximum benefit of the financial assistance being provided under the schemes
Earlier, various deputation including Sabzi Mandi Shopkeepers Association, Panjtirthi Displaced Shopkeepers Committee, Gumat Chowk Welfare Association, Bikram Chowk/Rajiv Nagar Welfare Committee and Christian Colony Welfare Association called on the Chairman and appraised him about their developmental needs. The deputationists sought immediate measures to redress their problems.
Later, the Chairman discussed the demands projected by the deputations with the Principal Secretary, Housing and Urban Development Department Suresh Kumar, Commissioner, Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) K. L Khajuria and Director Horticulture Planning and Marketing Produce (HPMP), A R Nanto.
The Director HP&M gave details of the programmes and schemes being implemented in Jammu division to encourage unemployed youth to set up their own income generating units. He said the department would issue license to those who intend to establish Seed Storage, Pesticides Storage in the rural areas, besides will prove kits and all other necessary assistance for Beekeeping and Mushroom Cultivation.
The Chairman also discussed expansion of Narwal Fruit Mandi, transfer of land, rehabilitation of displaced shopkeepers of Panjtirthi, proper drainage, sewerage and civic facilities in and around the biggest Sabzi Mandi in Parade, with the officers.
