SRINAGAR, Sept 28: Former minister, Abdul Gani Vakil has expressed concern over alleged false promises given by the Central and UT government to fruit growers and daily wagers of providing them a special package of financial assistance as they suffered heavily due to COVID-19 lockdown and turmoil in J&K.
In a handout Vakil said nothing has been done by the UT government in this direction till today.
“It is surprising that both the fruit growers and daily wagers are missing in the recently announced special package to J&K by the Central government,” he maintained.
He claimed that fruit growers and daily wage labourers including auto and taxi drivers, horse-cart owners and daily wagers working in different government departments are worst hit by COVID-19 lockdown.
Vakil also said that fruit growers too suffered heavily and their fruits worth lakhs of rupees suffered rot in cold storages at different cities of the country because of the lockdown but no financial assistance has been given to them till today.
He urged upon the Lt. Governor, Manoj Sinha to focus his attention on priority to recommend special package to fruit growers and daily wagers who are worst hit in the last two years-one due to turmoil in J&K and other due to lockdown.
