Workers hold protest demonstration

UDHAMPUR/JAMMU, Sept 2: Jal Shakti (PHE) Employees & Workers Association today held a strong protest at PHE Complex Udhampur and PHE complex BC Road Jammu in support of pending issues of the workers.
A large number of employees/workers from Ramnagar, Kulwanta, Majalta, Khoon, Mansar, Chenani, Kud, Patnitop, Krimachi, Panchari, Bhamag, Tikri, Jib Thathi, Garhi- Rehmble and other far- flung areas of district Udhampur under the Chairmanship of Som Nath, president Jal Shakti Employees and Workers Association and senior Trade Union leader Jammu Province, assembled at PHE Complex Barian in Udhampur and launched protest demonstration.
Som Nath criticized the attitude of UT Govt for not addressing the issues of PHE workers who are on strike since long. The workers continued the ongoing agitation for the last 72 days but the UT Govt, particularly LG Manoj Sinha seems to be non-serious after commitment with the PHE United Front on November 11, 2020. The workers are forced to come on the roads as massive protest march in front of Raj Bhawan and Civil Secretariat was witnessed recently. The employees are badly suffering for the last 25 years. The general public is also suffering in the absence of regular water supply due to the `Kham Chor Hartal’ by the daily wagers.
Trade Union leader appealed to the LG, Manoj Sinha to solve the issues of the daily wagers as committed with PHE United Front as early as possible. If the UT Govt agrees to meet the demands of daily wagers then the strike will be called off next day.
The PHE workers are demanding regularization of CP/ITI/land case workers, release pending wages of 70 months, conduct DPC of all cadres, remove shortage of staff and implementation of Minimum Wages Act in J&K.
In Jammu, similar protest dharna of the PHE daily wagers continued in the office premises of Chief Engineer, Jal Shakti/PHE at B C Road. The workers under the leadership of Ravi Hans held strong protest demonstration and raised slogans against the UT Government for its failure to settle their issues. They warned to continue their agitation till their demands are addressed by the higher authorities.
