This refers to editorial ” Up-gradation of Jammu Airport ” (Excelsior 10th April ). Jammu desperately needs better airport facility as the existing airport around Satwari is located in a very much congested area.
I apprehend some kind of disaster in view of residential houses being located near this airport. In addition to it lot of solid waste lies scattered around Satwari, Digiana and Shastri Nagar areas which can also lead to aircraft bird hit.
Airports Authority of India (AAI) needs to find an alternate location for airport in Jammu but before the land is acquired for the same, affected people must be paid adequate compensation as stamp duty rates in Jammu district are very less. The farmers affected by Semi Ring Road in Jammu / Kashmir valley are moving from pillar to post from last two years as they are not being adequately compensated by Government. This should not happen with affected people who will give their land for proposed new Jammu airport.
