Udhampur Police, Team Jammu rope in youth, women in anti-drug campaign

UDHAMPUR, Mar 27: Intensifying its on-going war against influential drug mafia and drug peddlers, Team Jammu in collaboration with Udhampur-Reasi Police Range today organized an awareness program highlighting the ill-effects of drug abuse on society.
Large number of people including women, elderly, youth Panchs, Sarpanchs of Pancheri-Moungri blocks participated in the program and pledged not to allow drug menace in their hilly belt at any cost.
(DIG, Udhampur-Reasi Range, Sujit Kumar was the chief guest while SSP Udhampur, Sargun Shukla and Chairman, Team Jammu, Zorawar Singh Jamwal were the guests of honour on the occasion. The function was organized by Team Jammu volunteer and young Member DDC, Pancheri-Moungri, Yasvir Singh.
While addressing the gathering, DIG Sujit Kumar said that it is the commitment of J&K UT Police to make Jammu Kashmir free from the yoke of drugs and narcotics. “We have to jointly fight this war because youth of each and every community have become victim of this menace,” he added.
DIG Sujit Kumar asked the people to come forward and share any sort of information pertaining to drug peddling as well as any other anti-social activities and assured that the identity of whistle blowers would be kept secret.
SSP Udhampur, Sargun Shukla, in her address, said that district police Udhampur has further intensified its drive against anti-social activities especially against drug abuse and illicit liquor. She also called upon the public in general and women folk in particular to come forward and shoulder their responsibilities in making society free from all such anti-social activities.
Chairman, Team Jammu, Zorawar Singh Jamwal said that despite police efforts, drug mafia was playing with lives of youth. “Almost every second or third day, helpless parents are approaching Team Jammu to save their wards from this menace,” he said and suggested two pronged strategy to curb drug menace.
“The drug peddlers must be dealt with iron hands to ensure their exemplary conviction after proper trial in the court and the Government must chalk out policy for youth, like promotion of sports, opening new avenues of becoming Atam-Nirbhar, so that energy of youth is channelized in nation building and development of the region,” he explained.
Young Member, DDC, Pancheri-Moungri, Yasvir Singh, in his address, appealed to the senior police officers to increase police manpower in the hilly belt, which will help nailing anti-social elements.
