Two more snatchers land in police net, tally rises to 3

JAMMU, Oct 28: With the arrest of a snatcher yesterday, police today also succeeded in nabbing two more chain snatchers taking the tally of arrested persons to three.
This was disclosed by SP City North Shiv Kumar Singh Chouhan during a press conference here at Bakshi Nagar police station.
Chouhan stated that a group of chain snatchers was active in areas of Subash Nagar, Vikas Nagar, Gurha Morh, Bakshi Nagar and some other areas of Jammu West for the past around one year, which had created panic in the people especially women, while walking on roads.
The people also lodged complaints with concerned police stations and police posts regarding snatching incidents in the past and cops were put on alert in the Jammu West areas to nab the snatchers, he added.
“A chain snatcher identified as Munish Gupta, son of Anil Gupta of Rehari Colony, was arrested yesterday from Vikas Nagar, when he snatched the gold chain weighing 2 tolas of a lady and tried to escape”, he said, adding that on the disclosure on Munish Gupta, police today arrested two more chain snatchers, who were associates of Munish and had done chain snatching jointly in various areas of the Jammu West.
The two more arrested chain snatchers have been identified as Anubhav Khajuria alias Honney, son of Ramesh Khajuria of Laxmi Nagar, Sarwal and Gourav Bali, son of Shashi Bhushan Bali of Rehari Colony, SP added.
Chouhan stated that with the arrest of accused, three cases of chain snatching have been solved, adding that three gold chains along with a Pulsar motorcycle bearing registration Number JK02BA-1497 used in the crime have been recovered on their disclosure.
He added that the main accused Munish Gupta is a drug addict and might be selling the stolen items among the persons indulged in narcotic smuggling trade to meet his needs.
Further questioning of the accused is going on, he said, adding that more arrests and recoveries are expected in the near future.
A special team led by SHO Bakshi Nagar Inspector Ashwani Sharma and accompanied by SI Javed Iqbal Kataria made the arrests under the supervision of SDPO West Vivek Shekhar Sharma, SSP Jammu Uttam Chand, DIG Jammu Askhoor Ahmed Wani and IG Jammu Danish Rana.
