Two militants trapped; heavy shelling in Uri

SRINAGAR, Nov 10: Security forces today trapped two militants in a village in Bandipora district of North Kashmir while one person was injured and six houses damaged as Pakistani troops resorted to heavy shelling in the area.
A joint operation was launched by 14 RR of Army, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and SOG Bandipora in Lawdara, Papshan area of the district after inputs about presence of a group of mlltants in the village.
Militants who were hiding in an under construction house opened firing on the troops during search operations leading to an encounter, The firing was going on till last reports came in. The cordon around the village was strengthened to prevent the militants from fleeing.
And in the meantime, Pakistani troops fired mortars in Hajipeer sector of Uri injuring one civilian and damaging half a dozen houses.
The shelling has been going on since last night and Army gave befitting reply to the firing by Pakistani troops in the sector.
One person identified as Bashir Ahmad Ganai son of Ghulam Mohammad Ganai of Tulwari was injured in the shelling today.
Six residential houses were damaged in Pakistani shelling in Churanda village during the night and some people of the village fled and have taken shelter in Uri town. They have been accommodated in Middle School Uri where authorities provided them food and bedding.
