JAMMU, June 12: A two-day national convention of All India Vedic Brahman Kalyan Parishad (VBKP) concluded at the Holy township of Haridwar the other day with the declaration of conferring `Vedic Shree Samman’ on the two most dedicated, honest and humble Legislators of the Vedic Brahman community from J&K and Himachal Pradesh for the distinguished services to the community and the general masses and felicitation of twelve children of different states for their outstanding performance in the field of education.
In this national level convention, about 500 delegates from 13 states of the country, including 97 from J&K participated. In this conclave several resolutions were adopted for bringing reforms in the community with regard to fight out dowry system, `Parda Pratha’ which is still continuing in the states like Rajasthan and Harayana, to support `Beti Bachao, Beti Padao’ campaign of Prime Minister and avoid extra spending in marriage etc.
Addressing the convention national president of VBKP, Subhash Kaushik revealed that this social organization is moving ahead with very pious mission to service the community. Though, main purpose of the Vedic Parishad, as its name suggests, is to promote Vedic education and our traditional & ancient `Sanatan culture’ , which is at the verge of extinction due to the impact of western culture, yet it is committed for bringing social reforms in the Samaj. There is need to inculcate moral values among children, make our youth to understand the importance of our Vedas and our own culture which is still most relevant in this modern world.
VBKP took resolve to open a hostel in Union capital or in the NCR region for the youth of the `Vedic Parivar’ who intend to prepare for Civil Service Exam or other higher level examinations. The other important purpose of this `Sammelan’ was to provide a platform to the members of the community for the marriage of their grown up children. A special introductory session was also held.
Former MLA Reasi and Ex-chairman Municipal Committee Katra (J&K), Late Pt Rishikesh Sharma and former MLA Sunder Nagar, Distt Mandi (HP), Sh Baldev Chand Bhardwaj, were declared to be honoured with `Vedic Shree Samman’ (Posth) at next national convention being held in J&K.
Twelve children who secured 90 % or above marks in 10th and 12th class were honoured with `Vedic Vidya Shree Award’. Two among them including Shruti Sharma, daughter of Rajiv Sharma and Jyoti Sharma (Jammu) and Kankit Sharma, daughter Sunil Sharma and Reetu Sharma (Hiranagar) hailed from J&K.
