Chennai, Oct 28: Two and three-wheeler major TVS Motor has launched the “TVS Cheema Scholarship” fund with a corpus of Rs 100 crore, to serve 500 students every year, the company said on Sunday.
The aim of the programme is to offer financial support to students of mechanical engineering branch from Tamil Nadu every year, company Chairman-Emeritus Venu Srinivasan said.
The scholarship was unveiled by Chief Minister M K Stalin on Saturday evening, at an event to commemorate the birth centenary of the founder of the company T S Srinivasan, fondly known as ‘Cheema’, who is also a mechanical engineer.
This scholarship is a fitting tribute to his memory and aims to promote future talent and expand opportunities for deserving students pursuing mechanical engineering, which is a key to robotics and future technologies, a company statement said.
TVS Motor would work closely with premier educational institutions in the country to offer this scholarship to exceptional students. “The scholarship, with a corpus of Rs 100 crore, will cover full tuition, boarding and study materials for the duration of the chosen study programme for the awardees,” the statement said.
Students would be selected after a robust screening process by a selection committee. “My father, who founded TVS Motor, believed in empowerment and transformation through education. As we celebrate his centenary, we hope this programme will help nurture unstoppable leaders and fuel original thinkers who will build a better future,” TVS Motor Chairman-Emeritus Venu Srinivasan said.
A Section 8-company (not-for-profit) would be set up to administer the scholarship to ensure a transparent, and independent selection process, the statement added. (PTI)
